Sunrise Yoga and Hike - Estrella
Estrella Mountain Park
Yoga warm up with Candace Jordan. Candace will prepare us for our 2.5 mile Sunrise Hike with some basic Yoga instruction. No special equipment required. Come prepared to hike with sturdy shoes, a big hat, more water than you think you’ll need and a smile. Ranger Mark will lead the hike from the Coldwater Trailhead at 6:30am This is a great way to start your day! ?

Desert Edibles - Breakfast at San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Mmmmm! Tasty! What better way to learn about some of the appetizing delicacies of the Sonoran desert than tasting them yourself. Join us inside the cool comfort of the San Tan Visitor Center and be prepared to be amazed, with a delicious sampling of organic foods from your local desert. We will find out what makes a tasty treat in the desert, and what does not. No utensils necessary. Following the class there will be a short (optional) hike to see the edible plants in the wild.

If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about desert edibles, then this walk is for you! Join Ranger B on this quarter-mile stroll along the Desert Hawk Trail as he shares some useful facts about our edible desert plants. Please bring water. Location: Nature Center.

Tortoise Talks Come meet our new tortoises, Lily, Lady, and Scarlett, and baby tortoises, too! Help Ranger Amy feed them lunch! Find out why you should never pick up a wild tortoise, and learn about tortoises that are looking for homes. Don’t forget your camera – our tortoises are very photogenic (and they move slowly so you can get great pictures). Meet out back of the Visitor Center.

Summer Movie Day - The Living Desert - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Enjoy the cool comfort of the visitor center and watch this exciting movie on our huge projector screen. But this is no ordinary movie theater. Our resident animals love movie day and will be outstanding company as they watch the movie with you, from inside their enclosures of course. Stay for one movie or watch them both. You are encouraged to bring snacks/lunch, pillows/blankets and make yourself super comfy.

Bug Theater: The Blacklight Chronicles - Cave Creek Regional Park

Join Ranger Sarah and bug expert, James Waters of ASU, as we light up the night and see what creepy crawlies want to come visit us. This is a hit with the kids and you will be surprised how much you will enjoy it too! First we will start with a presentation on different types of insects and spiders that live in the desert and then we will create our own movie screen of bugs! We will see moths, beetles and even a praying mantis or two. Bring flashlights and go easy on the bug spray!! Bug guides will be on hand. You are more than welcome to enjoy a picnic dinner before hand and then meet with us afterwards. Meet at the Nature Center.

Scorpion Hunt - Spur Cross**CANCELLED**

June 16 Saturday 7:30 pm Spur Cross Scorpion Hunt (easy) Did you know that scorpions glow in the dark under a blacklight? Join Ranger Kevin as he leads us on this fun and safe night walk to find these elusive desert dwellers (using our eyes only). You will learn cool facts about these amazing creatures and sharpen your spotting skills! All ages will enjoy this casual one-hour/one-mile walk. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water and a flashlight (blacklights are especially helpful). No pets please.
