Volunteer with Public Health
2015 POD Volunteer Trainings NEW!
We need your help when disaster strikes. A Point of Distribution or POD is where the public goes to pick up emergency supplies following a disaster, and we need members of the community to help operate these PODs.
- You must attend one 4-hour training session on one of the following dates:
- Saturday, January 10
- Saturday, February 28
- Saturday, March 21
- Saturday, April 25
- Saturday, May 16
- Saturday, June 20
All trainings are held from 8:00am - 12pm (noon)
- To sign up, email Jennifer Metcalf at JenniferMetcalf@mail.maricopa.gov
For the investment of a few hours, would you choose to help minimize the impact of a public health emergency on your family and local community? Would you choose to do everything possible to ensure that you and your family have priority to receive countermeasures in a public health emergency? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, Office of Preparedness and Response (MCDPH OPR) volunteer team is for you!
What can you do?
Set up and staff Points of Dispensing (PODs) to dispense life-saving medications to the public during a public health emergency
Staff Volunteer Reception Centers (VRCs) to coordinate volunteer needs for Maricopa County during an emergency
Staff call centers/phone banks to provide information to the public in an emergency
Assist with evacuation of individuals needing additional assistance in an emergency
Provide information and support to the community
Attend trainings and events offered throughout the year
What is the time commitment?
To be a MCDPH OPR volunteer, you must attend POD Leadership Training, which is a one-time session to introduce you to public health preparedness and how you can be of assistance. After this training, your commitment can be as big or small as you would like it to be, although MCDPH offers training and volunteer opportunities on a regular basis.
