On September 3, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve a resolution declaring September Preparedness Month in Maricopa County. This declaration promotes the importance of individual and household preparedness as a means of ensuring a safe and health community.
The Resolution reads as follows:
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is sponsoring NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH 2008, a nationwide effort to be held this SEPTEMBER to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and schools; and
WHEREAS, NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH will provide Americans with a variety of activities and opportunities to learn more about preparing for emergencies, natural disasters, and potential threats; and messages across the nation will encourage individuals to get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, be informed about different threats, and to get involved in preparing their communities; and
WHEREAS, part of the mission of Maricopa County and the Department of Emergency Management, the Department of Public Health and the Maricopa County Citizen Corps program is to prepare our residents on how best to take care of their families, businesses, and themselves during emergencies and disasters; and
WHEREAS, NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH offers an excellent opportunity to get pertinent information to the public:
Now, therefore be it resolved that Maricopa County Board of Supervisors hereby joins in designating the month of September 2008 as National Preparedness Month in Maricopa County, Arizona and urges residents of Maricopa County to learn how to be ready for the unexpected.
It is hereby ORDERED that this Resolution be entered into the record this 3rd day of September, 2008.
