As part of the Maricopa County crime prevention initiative, Maricopa County and City of Phoenix have teamed up for Summer Madness, a series of Friday evenings of free activities for youth at South Phoenix area City Parks and Wednesday evenings of community outreach social services for families at the South Mountain Community Center in July and August.. (A complete schedule of dates and locations will be available.)
Summer Madness is an extension of the Crime-Prevention Initiative by Maricopa County and the State of Arizona. The City of Phoenix joins in to provide safe and healthy diversions for youth ages 12 – 17.
Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox says, “Crime prevention is one of our primary objectives. Programs for youth help them develop into productive citizens who will contribute to our community in a positive way.”
Supervisor Wilcox has collaborated with Phoenix City Councilmen Michael Nowakowski and Michael Johnson to create these programs at City Parks in the South Phoenix area. “As budgets have become tighter for governments," she says, "partnerships allow sharing of resources that will maintain important programs for our communities.”
Maricopa County Juvenile Probation Department also is part of the program. Probation personnel will be on hand to work with at-risk youth at the events.
All members of the public are invited to come and participate in the free activities.
