Tough Economic Times Call & Public/Private Sector Partnerships Answer
The small business community is the stronghold that keeps the economy going, maintaining the economic vitality of the communities across the nation, and it is no different in Maricopa County. Despite the economic downturn, MCbiz, through SRP’s Double-Diamond Sponsorship, is honoring five small business enterprises on June 10, 2008 at SkySong in Scottsdale from 1:30-5:30pm during a NO COST ½ day workshop dubbed – “The Power of Small Business in Local Economies,” which is aligned with Arizona’s Minority Enterprise Center and the United States Department of Commerce’s celebration of its Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week festivities held throughout the country. Most governmental agencies are undergoing economic challenges these days, and MCbiz is not immune. “MCbiz is weathering this economic storm as best we can,” said Andres Chagolla, Manager for Maricopa County’s Small Business Enterprise Program. “Entities from the private sector, government, and higher education must forge sustainable partnerships, and we must strive to move forward in this regard,” noted Chagolla.

“We were not able to produce several videos honoring small business enterprises on our own due to lack of resources; however, we afforded members of the Arizona Production Association the opportunity to team up with MCbiz on behalf of the small business community,” said Chagolla. MCbiz received a welcome response from three firms: Daylite Films, Just Press Play, and RENTech Systems Design. Each designed unique video vignettes gratis, with Just Press Play producing two vignettes – all gratis.
MCbiz is grateful for all of the firms’ production work, which has culminated in outstanding video vignettes in celebration of the small business community and MCbiz’s TOP HAT Awards (Top Hat Awards are based on the fact that all entrepreneurs wear many hats including the TOP HAT).
