This year marks the 10th anniversary of Chase Field--and the 10th year that Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox will lead hundreds of excited 6th grade Diamondbacks fans into Chase Field, Wednesday morning, April 30, 2008 to see the D-Backs take on the Houston Astros.  The children live in the shadow of Chase Field, are not be able to afford to attend games.  Wilcox calls this annual event the Inner City D-Backs Jam.

The children have come to look forward to when they are eligible to attend the annual D-Backs Jam.  They must earn their tickets by donating five hours of community service.  “These children have given ten thousand hours to our community,” says Supervisor Wilcox.  “In addition to earning tickets, they’re learning about giving back.”

This year, to correspond with Maricopa County’s Running Out of Air campaign, the children also will learn about what they and their families can do to help clean the air in our Valley.  The Running Out of Air street team, humans wearing computer keyboards and monitors, will be on hand at Grant Park so the kids can go to www.runningoutofair.com  and make the clean air commitment.

The Phoenix Suns are partnering with Maricopa County on the Running Out of Air campaign, so the Suns gorilla will join the Diamondbacks Baxter in welcoming the youth.

The children will gather at Grant Park, 3rd Avenue and Grant Street, at 10:30 AM.  There will be a “cheer the loudest” contest among the schools and the winning school will lead all the kids on the march to Chase Field.  Participating schools:  Phoenix Elementary District:  Bethune, Capitol, Dunbar, Garfield, Herrera, Kenilworth, Lowell, Shaw and Murphy Elementary District:  Garcia, Hamilton, Kuban, Sullivan
