Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards to be Discussed
County encourages affected business community to attend
The Maricopa County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) encourages the business community and public to attend its next regular quarterly meeting when the group will host Brian Harrell, U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS). Harrell will offer a presentation regarding the agency’s new Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards and detail how the new rules will apply to businesses that use or store high-risk chemicals. The meeting is scheduled for:
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Flood Control District Building
2801 West Durango, Phoenix AZ
On April 9, 2007, DHS issued the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorist Standards which were subsequently authorized by Congress. DHS now requires registration for facilities that use or store high-risk chemicals. Additionally, these businesses are required to conduct a security vulnerability assessment and then develop and implement a site security plan that includes specific security measures that meet the federally-designed standards. Additional information regarding the chemicals that fall within these guidelines and what measures businesses need to take can be obtained by attending the meeting or visiting DHS’s website at www.DHS.gov/chemicalsecurity
