The North Tempe Neighborhood Association, the sheriff’s chain gang, Keep Phoenix Beautiful, ASU students and citizens at large will link up to clean up the county island that borders Tempe, where the 202 Freeway and Rural intersect. This is the 6th annual effort coordinated by Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Earnhardt Honda of Avondale will bring a Civic Hybrid and a Ridgeline Truck to the event, loaded with coolers filled with sodas and water. Honda is a national sponsor of Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, which runs from March through May every year. Keep Phoenix Beautiful, a local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is a sponsor of this annual city/county clean-up.
District 1 Maricopa County Supervisor, Fulton Brock, has spearheaded regular clean-ups throughout the South East Valley within the past decade. “We are able to accomplish such clean-ups with the coordinated efforts of many entities. The North Tempe Neighborhood Association, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, ASU student volunteers, Sheriff Joe Arpaio and our Maricopa County Waste Management Department combine forces to make these clean-ups successful. We want to encourage everyone to look after their neighborhoods, so come join us.”
Volunteers are needed. Anyone is welcome to join in the effort. Gloves, vests, garbage bags, water and munchies will be provided. Service hours credit can be earned. Call (602) 506-1776 for more information, or simply show up at the staging area at Gilbert and Mary Roads, just south of Curry and east of Rural.
