Orlando, Florida—The Board of Directors of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund (NALEO) today recognized Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox for her two decades of leadership with an award at their 24th Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.
“Mary Rose Wilcox is a shining example of the most accomplished Latino leaders NALEO has to offer,” said NALEO Educational Fund President Rafael Anchia. “Her two decades of NALEO membership and seven years as Chair of the NALEO Educational Fund Board of Directors, served to lead us through the unprecedented growth of the organization over the past decade and helped solidify NALEO’s place as the premier leadership organization for Latino elected officials.”
Supervisor Wilcox is serving her third four-year term on the Board of Supervisors in Maricopa County—named “best run county” by Governing Magazine and Syracuse University. She previously served on the Phoenix City Council for nine years. Mary Rose was honored as being the first Hispanic woman ever to serve on the Phoenix City Council and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. She has been a NALEO Board member since1986 and served as Chair of the NALEO Educational Fund from 1998-2006. She often cites NALEO as having helped her grow her governing skills to better serve her constituents.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by my colleagues,” Supervisor Wilcox said. “For me, to help NALEO grow and build a structure that can help serve elected officials was always worthwhile. The fact that NALEO has members from every level of elected office, from school board to Congress and from every corner of the country, has given me a chance to network and learn from them and has enhanced by ability to better serve the residents of Maricopa County.”
