The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Phoenix in which the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will improve a two-mile stretch of MC85 (Buckeye Road) between 91st and 107th Avenues.
The project--expected to cost approximately $8.5-million—will make a roadway with six lanes, raised center medians, curbs, bike lanes, drainage system and some sidewalks. In the agreement, the City of Phoenix is allowing MCDOT to purchase or condemn any land within the city required for construction, and will waive any normally required permit fees for projects within its jurisdiction.
“ This major step forward by Maricopa County, will provide much needed relief on 1-10. It is our hope to start with this 2 mile section and extend the expansion from 107 Ave to Mc85 in the very near future.”
The entire portion of the roadway is under the jurisdiction of the county, but is adjacent to the City of Tolleson on the north, City of Phoenix on the South, and the area west of 107th Avenue is within the City of Avondale.
This stretch of roadway is currently a combination of residential, industrial and agricultural uses. However, future land use is anticipated to be mostly commercial and industrial adjacent to MC85, with residential areas south of the commercial development.
