County parks to hold public meeting for proposed fee increases

(Phoenix) – Maricopa County’s Parks and Recreation Commission will host a public meeting on Tuesday, November 12 at 9:00 a.m. in the Parks Conference Room located at 234 N. Central Avenue, Ste. 6400 in Phoenix to discuss proposed fee increases.

Fees which may be adjusted include: camping fees, annual passes, facility rentals and fees for the Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Day-use park entry fees will remain the same.

“Park visitor and use fees have not increased in at least four years and some fees have not changed in more than eight years.  Prior to making these recommendations, we conducted a cost of service study and benchmarked our fee structure against similar park systems in the country. The proposed fee increases are rather modest; however, they will help us improve and maintain the County’s aging park system,” said R.J. Cardin, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Director.

“One proposed change I believe our customers will be happy about is the modification we’re making to the annual pass structure. Although, there will be a slight fee increase, the new annual pass will provide access to all mountain parks and now includes Lake Pleasant Regional Park,” added Cardin.

If approved, the Parks and Recreation Commission will make a formal recommendation to the County Board of Supervisors for approval of the new fee schedule in January 2014.  Parties interested in providing feedback on the proposed changes are encouraged to attend the Tuesday, November 12 public meeting.
