Maricopa County Asks for State and Federal Aid After Storms

MARICOPA COUNTY DECLARES EMERGENCY TO  QUALIFY FOR STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING

MORE THAN $1 MILLION TO BE REQUESTED
Maricopa County Supervisors’ Chairman Max Wilson issued a Declaration of Emergency late this afternoon, as a first step in qualifying for state and federal aid for reimbursement to the county and cities for funds expended during the recent February rains and flooding.

 

“The weather events that began on February 10,2005 and throughout the recent weeks and the accumulation of excessive rain and water runoff has caused localized flooding and damage to public infrastructure,” said Chairman Wilson.

 

Emergency Management Director Osman O. Aloyo said more than $1 million in funds will be requested including $600,000 for the City of Phoenix Verde Water Treatment plant, and  $400,000 in street and infrastructure damage for the Arizona Department of Transportation, Maricopa County Department of Transportation, City of Phoenix, City of Surprise, and Town of Fountain Hills.
