Students collect donations for animals

Highland High Agriculture students believe it is important to give back to their community. Every year, they participate in a community service project fitting into Agriculture Education in an urban environment. After doing some research, they realized that caring for unwanted pets was a major issue. So this year, they once more choose Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) to be the beneficiary of their work.

According to Amy Dillard, one of the FFA advisors, the project teaches students how to research needs in the community, request donations and encourages them to take an active role. They also learn the responsibility and commitment required to care for a pet.

Max Wilson, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors is proud of the students. “We are excited to have students learn about our organizations,” he said. “That they are learning how to give back to the community can only help them in their future endeavors in life.”

Last year, the students raised 3600 pounds of food. Please join us at Highland High School to see the students present MCACC with their donation this year. What’s better to see than kids giving back?
