SOUTHEAST LIBRARY SHOWCASES GILBERT’S TALENTED
A visit to the family-friendly Southeast Regional Library provides the perfect opportunity to replace an evening of television with a riveting book or great entertainment.
“Gilbert’s Got Talent” will showcase 17 acts at Southeast Regional in Gilbert, 7pm, Friday, September 25.
The Town of Gilbert and the library have teamed up to host a talent show that spotlights singers, dancers, musicians and an assortment of other performers. Event participants range in age from five to 50-something. The talent show is not a competitive event.
“This will be an exciting night of fun and revelry,” said Cathy Ormsby, Southeast Youth Services coordinator. “We look forward to the entire community supporting this event in celebration of TV Turnoff Week.”
National TV-Turnoff Week is a nationwide effort which targets the medium of television and asks that people reassess the role TV plays in their daily lives as entertainer, pacifier, babysitter, time filler and background noise. TV Turnoff Week is a twice-yearly event that encourages families to seek ways other than television to fill their free time.
“Our goal is to give families an alternative to vegging out in front of the television—free of charge. The talent show is also about celebrating our families, our community, and each unique individual in the community,” Ormsby concluded.
Southeast is one of 17 libraries of the Maricopa County Library District. In fiscal year 2008-09, District libraries welcomed more than 3.4 million visitors. For more information visit www.mcldaz.org.
