Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) has a visitor from far away. A Dachshund was found near 35th Avenue and I-10. When he was brought into MCACC, he was scanned for a microchip (standard procedure for all animals that come into MCACC). Some animals that come in have microchips – these animals have a better chance of being returned home. When the Dachshund was scanned, it was discovered that he won the “traveled furthest award.” He’s from California!
Max was a shelter dog when his family adopted him. He was known to run off, but he would always stop when he met people. After multiple escapes from the backyard, the family decided to keep him in the house when they were away from home. One day three weeks ago, Max was just gone, nothing but a hole in the screen window.
Max’s family had given up on him. Then they were called by MCACC staff. They could not believe that Max had traveled all the way to Phoenix. After some planning, Max will be reunited with his family this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at 2500 S. 27th Avenue in Phoenix.
“Max is a wonderful example of why every animal should have a microchip implanted in them,” said Maricopa County Supervisors’ Chairman Max Wilson. “Get one for your dog or cat today.”
