105 confirmed cases of H1N1 Flu in Maricopa County

105 confirmed cases of H1N1\Swine Flu in Maricopa County

PHOENIX – (May 11, 2009) The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) learned today that The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 105 cases of the H1N1\Swine Flu in Maricopa County.

"The increase in the number of confirmed cases is consistent with our expectations.  We will continue to work harder than ever with our community health and school partners in monitoring disease trends in our Valley and will keep you informed all along the way,"  said Dr. Bob England, director for the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

Arizona is one of several states with approved laboratories who are assisting CDC with processing Swine Flu samples.  This additional lab support is helping the national effort to process these samples in a timely manner.  Together, all partners are reminding the public that the seasonal flu season is just around the corner and that we all have a part in preventing the spread of disease.

Today, remember to wash your hands thoroughly and help your children practice these important health practices.  See www.wearepublichealth.org for instructions on proper hand hygiene for you and your family.
