PHOENIX – (May 5, 2009) The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) learned today that The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 11 additional cases of the Swine Flu in Maricopa County bringing the county total to 20.
Of the new cases, five are under age 18, five are adults and one is still under investigation.
“With more than 100 potential cases awaiting confirmation by the CDC for Maricopa County alone, we fully expect to see both our cases of Swine Flu and Seasonal Flu to increase; however, these new cases do NOT change our course of action here in Maricopa County.
“We, at the Health Department will continue to our part in monitoring the severity of the cases and the community must continue to do its part in preventing its spread.” said Dr. Bob England, director of Maricopa Department of Public Health.
