| ***SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER, JOE FORD*** This program looks at the major plant families and describes characteristics of their flowers: unusual and important information about some major species. The 6 largest families,(sunflowers, orchids, legumes, grasses, mustards and roses) are highlighted. A discussion of deserts in America and especially the Sonoran Desert are emphasized. Familiar members of the Cactus Family, including the saguaro, prickly pear, & cholla are included in the information along with other plants that use several survival strategies to thrive in desert ecosystems. This is a power point presentation.
***Joe is a native of Missouri. He holds several degrees in education and a Masters Degree in Natural Science from the University of Oklahoma. He has been an educator on the junior high, high school and college levels. After 42 years in the teaching field he retired to Sun City, Arizona. He is a board member in the Sonoran Audubon Society and a member of the Sun City Rockhounds, among many of his other interests. |
