Fridays Fitness Hike - Sonoran Trail- *Outside of Park*- McDowell
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
ALL Fridays (hike length varies). Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. It's a great way to meet new people and get fit! We build up to a longer hike at the end of each month. Meet at the Sonoran Trail. This is a trail that starts at the end of Golden Eagle Blvd (Dixie Mine Trailhead). 8-10 miles round-trip.

Basics of Bird Watching - Usery Park

Interested about getting into bird watching but don’t know where to start? Want to know which bird is which and how to spot them? Join bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, for this introduction to bird watching as she guides you on a quarter-mile stroll along our Desert Hawk Trail. Bring binoculars if you have them, otherwise, Sandy has some to loan. Please bring water. Location: Nature Center.

Wildflower Walk - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
March 30 Friday 9:00 am Wildflower Walk (moderate) Come and see what’s blooming in Spur Cross. This three-hour stroll along the Spur Cross Trail will showcase some of the wildflowers found in the park and explore the beauty of the conservation area.

"Just for Kids" - Little Desert Explorers - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
This 1-mile hike is designed for parents and grandparents with small children, ages 3 – 6 years. Using their senses, kids will discover lots of cool things about the plants and animals that call our desert “home.” We will explore the desert along the scenic Merkle Trail. The hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water and hats. Location: Area 6.

All About Saguaros - "Brown-Bag It" with Ranger B - Usery Park

Why do saguaros grow arms? How old do they get? What are the unique strategies they use to survive and thrive in our desert? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about saguaros, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares his love for the “jolly green giant of the desert.” Location: Nature Center.

"A Tale of Two Deserts” with Professor/Author, Dr. John Alcock - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Join us for this informative presentation by professor/author, Dr. John Alcock. Dr. Alcock has authored five books on the biology of the Sonoran Desert and has personally studied the unique plants and animals in the Usery Mountains for over thirty years. Recently, he completed a research trip to the desert regions of Australia. Dr. Alcock will show a slide presentation comparing two wonderful and unique places: our Sonoran Desert and the Australian Desert. Location: Nature Center.
