About Us
Mission: The mission of the Superintendent of
Schools is to provide fiscal and educational services to school districts, educators, and the
community so that they can effectively improve student achievement.
The Maricopa County School Superintendent is one of 12 elected
officials in the government of Maricopa County. The Superintendent's responsibilities include:
serving as the fiscal agent for school districts, with total annual expenditures of more than
$300 million; providing educational programs and support services for students; maintaining
payroll services for school district employees; conducting school district elections; administration
of home instruction; and technological support for school districts. The Superintendent
oversees and is the governing board for the Maricopa County Regional Schools District,
which provides alternative educational services to school districts and students throughout
Maricopa County. The Superintendent also is responsible for a consortium of 9 small schools.
