Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
STDs affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and from all walks of life in fact, in the U.S. alone there are approximately 19 million new infections each year.
Many STDs can easily be cured with medication, however if left untreated, they can lead to complications, serious health problems and even death. People infected with STD's often show no signs or symptoms, so prompt examination, testing and treatment are essential.
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health STD clinic provides testing and/or treatment of the sexually transmitted diseases, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes, Syphilis, and Venereal/Genital Warts.
Testing
Confidential testing, treatment, and follow-up services for people with sexually transmitted diseases are available for $20.00 on a walk-in basis. Community educational presentations about STD's and HIV also are available upon request.
Express testing service is now being offered for those clients who come into the clinic for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis and HIV testing. Clients, who complete a short, confidential medical survey, are not symptomatic and are deemed to be at a lower risk for STD's and or HIV will be offered the opprotunity to be tested wihout first seeing a clinician.
Clients who agree to express testing will be notified within a few days if any of their tests are positive; at that time, an apointment will be made with a clinician to ensure proper medical treatment.
