Office of Nutrition Services
OUR VISION: Recognized in Maricopa County as the most valued source of nutrition services to build a healthy community.
OUR MISSION: Provide quality customer focused nutrition education, supplemental foods, and breastfeeding services to promote optimal health.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC Program - serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, & children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.
The Maricopa County Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program utilizes Peer Counselors to help WIC mothers and babies get off to the best start with breastfeeding. Peer counselors are mothers who previously have breastfed and understand the challenges. For more information, please call the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program Message Line at 602-506-9336.
The Community Nutrition Programs office serves Maricopa County by providing education and resources to help the public make smart nutrition choices. Our expert staff of Registered Dietitians (RD) partner with other community members to offer programs that promote health and prevention of chronic diseases. Maricopa County also offers a full-time dietetic internship through the Community Nutrition Programs office, for qualifying college graduates wanting to pursue the RD credential.
