About Babies

Family with BabyAfter your baby is born, it is important to protect him/her from things seen and unseen. Infant health and safety is a big priority for Healthy Start and we can help you find ways to make sure your baby is developing normally and stays safe and well. Here are a few things you can do to help your baby:

  • Make sure your baby has a pediatrician. We can help you find medical care through KidsCare or through many other community providers.

  • Baby shots are important to your little one's health. Talk with your doctor about what immunizations are important and when your baby needs them.

  • Breast is best! The nutrition of your baby is very important to his/her health. The easiest way to help assure proper nutrition for your baby is by breast feeding.

  • Check your baby's sleep environment and sleep position with these easy consumer tips. Healthy Start can help you conduct a safe sleep check on your home---contact us today for more information at

  • Learn Infant and Child CPR. We can refer you to local classes. Contact us today.

  • Keep bath time safe---water temperature should be less than 100 degrees and no more than 2-3 inches of water. NEVER LEAVE YOUR BABY ALONE AROUND WATER---not even 1 SECOND!

  • Put your baby in a properly fitted infant car seat in the back seat. Check your car seat often for fit and function, many fire departments and hospitals throughout the valley can help you. Our team can also help teach you what you need to know about safe car seats.

  • DO NOT LEAVE BABY ALONE during diaper changes. Even the smallest babies find ways to roll off changing surfaces.

  • Keep heavy, breakable, unstable objects and furniture away from baby, cribs and changing tables. Keep window cords and hanging mobiles out of baby's reach---strings can tangle baby and cause suffocation.

  • Watch where you are going... carrying your baby can sometimes be distracting and falls from rugs, floor clutter and uneven pavement and surfaces can cause serious falls that can hurt both you and your baby. USE NIGHTLIGHTS.
