History of First Things First and Child Care Health Consultation Program:
In November 2006, Arizona voters passed Proposition 203: a citizen's initiative that funds quality early childhood development and health.
The mission of First Things First (FTF) is to increase the quality of, and access to, early childhood programs to ensure that a child entering school comes healthy and ready to succeed.
Child Care Health Consultants are part of the FTF Statewide Initiative to improve the quality of child care provided to children through the Quality First! Program. The Quality First Program provides Child Care Health Consultation Services via a tiered system, based on child care program’s need and desire for Child Care Health Consultation services. Tier One or Technical Assistance services are provided via the "Birth to Five Helpline" at 1-877-705-5437.
Currently, Maricopa County Department of Public Health Child Care Nurse Consultants provide services to all Quality First Tier 2 and Tier 3 child care programs in Maricopa County. Programs must be in the Quality First program and have a need and desire for specialized child care health consultative services. As of October 2012, the MCDPH Child Care Health Consultation Program currently serves 172 programs in Maricopa County.
