| The Town of Cave Creek is engaged in a monumental effort to preserve pristine Sonoran Desert lands north of the Phoenix metropolitan area. By annexing over 6,000 acres of State Trust Land into the Town, Cave Creek negotiated a plan to preserve over 4,000 acres as permanent open space which will be used for hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and as a buffer against rapid urban expansion. This land must be purchased from the State Land Department. To raise the funds necessary for this critical preservation effort, the Town is hosting a number of special events to showcase the lands being protected, generate public interest and raise money for acquisition. All proceeds from this event will go toward the acquisition of open space. Events include a 20-mile race/ride along the lands slated to be protected between Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area and Cave Creek Regional Park, scavenger hunt bike ride, outdoor vendor expo, beer garden, outdoor bike movie theater and a "Kids Kriterium"! This event is organized by the Town of Cave Creek. This event is not organized by the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department, but some of the courses will take you through two of our beautiful parks! |
